1. Product Description:
Isophorone is a colorless to yellow volatile liquid with a characteristic odor (camphor/mint scent). It is naturally found in cranberries and is insoluble in water but soluble in ethanol, ether, acetone, and most organic solvents. Upon exposure to light, it converts to a dimer. In air, it oxidizes to 4,4,6-Trimethyl-1,2-cyclohexanedione. It is slightly soluble in water and readily soluble in alcohol, ether, and acetone.
2. Product Applications:
Isophorone is used as a solvent for paints, inks, coatings, gums, resins, and nitrocellulose, as well as a chemical synthesis intermediate. It is particularly suitable for vinyl resins. It is mainly used in pesticides, coatings, and can coatings. Isophorone serves as a high-boiling solvent for nitrocellulose lacquers and synthetic resin coatings and is used as a special paint thinner. When mixed with methyl isobutyl ketone, it can dissolve phenolic and epoxy resins.
