I. Product Properties:
Petroleum ether is a colorless transparent liquid with a kerosene-like odor. It is primarily a mixture of pentane and hexane. Insoluble in water, it is soluble in absolute ethanol, benzene, chloroform, oils, and most organic solvents. It is highly flammable and explosive, and can react vigorously with oxidizing agents. It is mainly used as a solvent and for grease processing. Typically, it is produced by distilling residual oil from platinum reforming or straight-run gasoline through fractionation, hydrogenation, or other methods.
II. Product Uses:
Primary Uses: Mainly used as a solvent and for grease extraction.
As an Organic Solvent: Used as a solvent in organic chromatography, an efficient solvent in organic processes, a pharmaceutical extraction agent, and an auxiliary agent in fine chemical synthesis.
In Organic Synthesis: Utilized as a raw material in organic synthesis, such as in the production of synthetic rubber, plastics, nylon monomers, synthetic detergents, pesticides, etc. It is also an excellent organic solvent.
Other Uses: Used as a solvent, a foaming agent in foamed plastics, and an extraction agent for pharmaceuticals and fragrances.
