2. Application Areas:
In the petrochemical industry, DMF can be used as a gas absorbent for gas separation and purification. In organic reactions, DMF is widely used not only as a reaction solvent but also as an important intermediate in organic synthesis. In the pesticide industry, it can be used to produce dimethoate. In the pharmaceutical industry, it can be used to synthesize iodopyridine, doxycycline, cortisone, vitamin B6, idoxuridine, pyrvinium, thiosemicarbazide, N-formylsarcosine, anti-cancer drugs, methoxypyrimidine, benzalkonium chloride, cyclohexyl nitrosourea, furfuryl, hemostatic acid, dexamethasone, medroxyprogesterone, bile vitamins, chlorpheniramine, and many more. DMF also acts as a catalyst in hydrogenation, dehydrogenation, dehydration, and dehydrohalogenation reactions, lowering the reaction temperature and improving product purity. Additionally, DMF can be used as an analytical reagent.
3. Usage Precautions:
DMF is a low-toxicity, flammable liquid that can cause combustion or explosion when exposed to open flames or high heat. It reacts violently, even explosively, with concentrated sulfuric acid and fuming nitric acid.
