1. Product Characteristics:
Appearance and Odor: Colorless transparent liquid with a fragrant odor.
Relative Density (water=1): 0.92
Relative Vapor Density (air=1): 2.55
Vapor Pressure (kPa): 13.33 (at 9.4°C)
Flash Point: -10°C
Heat of Combustion (kJ/mol): 1593.4
Solubility in Water: 24.5 g/100 mL at 20°C
Ignition Temperature: 454°C
Explosion Limits % (V/V): 3.1~16.0
Stability and Reactivity: Stable
Hazard Characteristics:
Highly flammable; its vapor can form explosive mixtures with air and may cause fire or explosion when exposed to open flame or high heat. Reacts vigorously with oxidizing agents. The vapor is heavier than air and can spread to distant areas and ignite.
Packaging Methods: Small opening steel drums; ampoules with ordinary wooden boxes; screw-cap glass bottles, glass bottles with iron lids, plastic bottles, or metal drums (cans) with ordinary wooden boxes.
Solubility: Slightly soluble in water, miscible with ethanol, ether, and most organic solvents.
Incompatible Substances: Strong oxidizing agents, bases, acids.
2. Application Fields:
Methyl acetate is becoming a mature product internationally and is used as a substitute for acetone, butanone, ethyl acetate, cyclopentane, etc. It can serve as an organic solvent in the production of resins, coatings, inks, paints, adhesives, leather, polyurethane foam blowing agents, and thinners.
3. Usage Precautions:
Store in a cool, ventilated warehouse away from fire and heat sources. The storage temperature should not exceed 30°C. Keep the container sealed. Store separately from oxidizing agents, acids, and bases. Use explosion-proof lighting and ventilation facilities. Avoid using machinery and tools that can generate sparks. The storage area should be equipped with leakage emergency treatment equipment and suitable containment materials.
