CAS Number: 107-98-2
1. Product Characteristics:
Propylene glycol ether belongs to the category of dihydric alcohol ethers, similar to ethylene glycol ethers, but with lower toxicity to humans. It is classified as a low-toxicity ether. Propylene glycol methyl ether has a mild ether-like odor without strong irritating smell, making it safer and more versatile. Its molecular structure contains both ether and hydroxyl groups, giving it excellent solubility, appropriate evaporation rate, and reactive properties, which lead to a wide range of applications.
2. Product Uses:
(1) Mainly used as a solvent, dispersant, and diluent, and also as a fuel antifreeze and extractant.
(2) 1-Methoxy-2-propanol is an intermediate in the production of the herbicide isoproturon.
(3) As a solvent, dispersant, or diluent, it is used in industries such as coatings, inks, printing and dyeing, pesticides, cellulose, and acrylates. It can also be used as a fuel antifreeze, cleaning agent, extractant, and non-ferrous metal beneficiation agent, as well as an organic synthesis raw material.
(4) Propylene glycol methyl ether (107-98-2) is mainly used as an excellent solvent for nitrocellulose, alkyd resins, and maleic anhydride-modified phenolic resins. It is used as an antifreeze for jet fuels and as an additive in brake fluids. It is also used as a solvent for inks, textile dyes, and textile oils. Water-based coatings made from it are widely used in the automotive industry.
(5) Propylene glycol methyl ether (107-98-2) is extensively used in coatings and cleaners. Specific applications include as an active solvent for water-based coatings, an active solvent and coupling agent for solvent-based printing inks, a solvent for ballpoint pen and fountain pen inks, and as a coupling agent and solvent for household and industrial cleaners, rust removers, and hard surface cleaners. It is also used as a solvent for agricultural insecticides and, when mixed with propylene glycol n-butyl ether, in glass cleaner formulations.
(6) As a solvent, dispersant, or diluent, it is used in industries such as coatings, inks, printing and dyeing, pesticides, cellulose, and acrylates. It can also be used as a fuel antifreeze, cleaning agent, extractant, and non-ferrous metal beneficiation agent, as well as an organic synthesis raw material.
